“A Promise Broken”

~Esther Mitchell, 2010~

You promised to love me,

To cherish, to care.

Now all I see,

Is a bottomless pit of despair.

You told me you loved me,

Where did that go?

If this is supposed to be love,

Why does it torment me so?

You were supposed to love me,

In sickness and health.

Instead, you drive me to death’s door,

With your obsession with your own material wealth.

You promised to love me,

I’m sure I heard right.

But if what you give me is love,

Why do I cry myself to sleep at night?
